The STAR Visiting Scholar Programme

NoraProfessor Nora Kearney, director of the Cancer Care Research Centre at Stirling University, Scotland, was sponsored by the STAR Project and visited New Zealand during January/February 2009. Professor Kearney contributed to research capability building by leading workshops and seminars within each of the five consortium universities. Her visit was very valuable for promoting STAR’s vision.

The second STAR Visiting Scholar, Professor Lesley Degner, University of Manitoba, Canada, will visit early in 2010.




STAR PhD Scholarship Recipient

Grace WongGrace Wong has received a three year STAR Scholarship to complete her PhD at Auckland University of Technology. The title of her project is "Keeping Asian Kids Smoke-free in Aotearoa New Zealand: A Family and Community Focused Study"

 

 



STAR PhD Scholarship and Post Doctoral Fellowship Recipients

Dr Lauretta Muir and Amanda WilkinsonDr Lauretta Muir (left) from the University of Otago, Chirstchurch, has received an eighteen month STAR Post-Doctoral Fellowship. The title of her project is "Reducing the burden of Familial Hypercholesterolemia: A mixed method approach".
Amanda Wilkinson (right) has received a three year STAR Scholarship to complete her PhD at the University of Otago, Christchurch. The title of her project is "Rhetoric and reality of self-care in New Zealand: patient, professional and policy perspectives". 


STAR Research Grant Recipients and PhD Scholarship/Post-Doctoral Fellowship Recipients - from the University of Otago, Christchurch


Otago teamDr Lisa Whitehead (lower middle) and her team have received a STAR Research Grant. The title of their project is "Improving diabetes self-management - a randomised controlled trial".
Dr Marie Crowe (top left) and her team have also received a STAR Research Grant. The title of their project is "The clinical effectiveness of specialist supportive care for patients with bipolar disorder".
